About Us

Discover the heart and soul of Heckmondwike Players, a vibrant amateur dramatics society based in the lively community of Heckmondwike, West Yorkshire. Our mission is simple: to provide a space where creativity flourishes, friendships bloom, and everyone has a fantastic time while participating in high-quality theatrical productions.

We are 80 years old!

Heckmondwike Players was founded in 1944 by the local Air Raid wardens and plays were performed in various locations in the area.

By the late sixties interest had waned and it was decided to give the society a boost by producing a musical.

In 1972 Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Gondoliers" was staged at the Grammar school in Heckmondwike.

This proved to be a huge success and was followed by "The Mikado"in 1973.

The society has since flourished - staging musicals, plays and concerts in and around Heckmondwike, including Cleckheaton Town Hall, and more recently, Batley Town Hall.

The society recently celebrated its 80th anniversary. Here's to another 80 years!
